Easton Archery’s Legacy

Gary Cornum, Easton Archery’s marketing director, has been in the hunting industry since 1993. That’s back when carbon arrows were pretty new. On the latest episode of The Fair Chase, he and James talk arrows, from aluminum to the new Easton 5.0. Here are some takeaways from this conversation.

1. New Hunters Reignite the Passion

Gary loves taking factory workers or first-timers hog hunting in Florida. “Their enthusiasm brings back what it was like,” he says, recalling his early days when hunting kept him up at night.

Watching a new hunter's eyes light up at a charging hog reminds him why he fell for archery. Guiding a rookie rekindles that kid-like wonder. Take a friend or kid hunting this season; their excitement will help fuel yours and keep the tradition alive.

We discussed this in our recent podcast episode below

2. Consistency is Deadly

Easton pumps out millions of arrows yearly, all made in Utah and Indiana with robotic precision. Gary says their manufacturing processes help make sure that every arrow flies the same, whether it’s number one or a million. “Inconsistent arrows spread your group!” Uniformity tightens shots and builds confidence.

3. Tinker to Find Your Perfect Arrow

Gary’s seen arrow trends swing, from light and fast in the ’90s to heavy logs a decade ago, now it’s micro shafts with heavy inserts. This allows you to tweak your setup, creating the perfect arrow for whatever you’re hunting. James uses 4mm Axis arrows with heavy inserts and 100-grain broadheads, versatile for everything from turkey to bison.

Experiment with point weights or outserts in the offseason to dial in your setup. A custom arrow turns a good shot into a great one.

4. Passion Helps Fuels Innovation

Easton’s family-owned, 100-year legacy lets Gary’s team focus on one thing: arrows. From Doug Easton’s handcrafted longbows to today’s carbon shafts, they innovate under one roof. “We prototype and test right here,” Gary says. They’re dialed in on arrows, so you can be dialed in on the hunt.
